Anxiety Therapy and Counseling in Los Angeles and Online Across California

For the worry that never fully switches off.

Hi, I'm Jeff. I'm a licensed counselor (MS, LPCC) and anxiety disorders are what I specialize in. If you've been told you're "just a worrier," or you've tried to think your way out of it and can't, that's not a personal failing. It's a pattern, and patterns can be changed. I use mindfulness-based CBT to help you get some distance from the worry and get your attention back.

No pressure, no commitment. We'll talk about what's going on and whether I'm the right fit.

Does this sound like you?

  • You worry about a lot of different things, most days, and it's been going on for months or years.
  • When one worry resolves, another takes its place. It's the worrying that's the constant, not the topic.
  • You're tense, restless, or on edge, and you can't remember the last time you felt properly relaxed.
  • You have trouble falling asleep, or you wake at 3 AM with your mind already running.
  • You're tired in a way that sleep doesn't fix, and it's harder to concentrate than it used to be.
  • You need certainty before you can let something go, and life keeps refusing to give it to you.
  • People close to you have noticed. Maybe they've said something.

This is what generalized anxiety looks like from the inside. It's one of the most common things I treat, and one of the most responsive to the right kind of therapy.

How mindfulness-based CBT helps with anxiety

Chronic worry runs on two engines. One is the thoughts themselves: the what-ifs, the worst-case planning, the mental rehearsal. The other is the belief that worrying is somehow useful, that it keeps you prepared or keeps bad things from happening. We work on both.

On the CBT side, we look at the actual thoughts driving the anxiety, test them against reality, and build more accurate ones. Most worry, when you slow it down and look at it, is a prediction with very little evidence behind it. Learning to notice that in real time is a skill, and it's learnable.

On the mindfulness side, we practice a different relationship to thoughts altogether. Instead of arguing with a worry or trying to make it go away, you learn to notice it, let it be there, and put your attention back where you want it. This is the part most people say they still use years later.

We also work on the practical things that feed anxiety: sleep, avoidance, the habit of seeking reassurance, and the tendency to treat uncertainty as an emergency. Those change too.

What to expect

  1. A free 15-minute phone call. You tell me what's going on. I tell you honestly whether I think I can help. If I'm not the right fit, I'll say so and point you somewhere better.

  2. The first session. We go through your history, what the worry attaches to, when it got worse, and what it's costing you. We set goals that matter to you: sleeping through the night, making a decision without a week of agonizing, being present with your family.

  3. The work. Usually weekly at first, then spacing out as you improve. You'll learn tools in session and practice them between sessions. Most people notice a difference within the first several weeks.

If anxiety shows up in a specific way

Sometimes anxiety concentrates on one thing. If that's true for you, these pages go deeper:

It's common for more than one to apply. We'll sort that out together.

In my office. I'm in Los Feliz, at 4620 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90027.

By video. I see clients by telehealth anywhere in California, including the Bay Area, San Diego, Orange County, and Sacramento.

Walk and talk. Some people find it much easier to talk side by side than face to face. I offer sessions walking around the Silver Lake Reservoir. For chronic worry in particular, moving while we talk tends to take the edge off.

Hours are Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM.

Fees

Sessions are 50 minutes and $250. I offer a sliding scale based on financial need, so if cost is the thing stopping you, ask me about it on the call.

Questions people ask before booking

What's the difference between normal worry and an anxiety disorder?

Everyone worries. It becomes a disorder when it's most days for months, it's hard to control, it's about many things rather than one specific stressor, and it's affecting your sleep, your focus, or your relationships. If you're not sure which side of that line you're on, that's a fine thing to bring to the free call.

Is counseling for anxiety the same as therapy?

For practical purposes, yes. I'm a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, and the work I do is psychotherapy. People use both words, and either one will get you to the same place.

Do I need medication?

Not necessarily. Many people with generalized anxiety do well with therapy alone. I'm not a prescriber, so that decision is between you and a physician or psychiatrist. If I think medication might help alongside therapy, I'll say so and can refer you.

How long does anxiety treatment take?

For generalized anxiety, many people feel meaningfully better within a few months of weekly sessions. Some choose to continue longer, especially if the anxiety has been around for years. We'll check in on progress regularly and you'll always know where things stand.

Can I do anxiety counseling online?

Yes. I see clients by telehealth anywhere in California. For generalized anxiety, video sessions work as well as in person.

Do you take insurance?

I'm a private-pay practice, which is what lets me keep a small caseload and offer a sliding scale. Many clients get part of the cost back through their plan's out-of-network benefits; I provide the paperwork for that each month, and I'm happy to walk you through it on the call.
